#KyivCityExpress began in 2022 during the first year of the full-scale war in Ukraine.
The project is based on the twenty stations of Kyiv’s urban railway. Initially conceived as a systematic cycle with two works for each station, it developed into a long-term observation of movement, infrastructure, and everyday urban continuity under wartime conditions.
During the war, the geography of daily life became narrower and more fragmented. The city train remained one of the few stable and functioning systems connecting different parts of Kyiv.
Stations, platforms, railway workers, passengers, maintenance trains, temporary structures, and changing urban landscapes became recurring subjects within the series.
The project combines direct observation, sketches, memory, and compositions based on photographs. Rather than documenting events, the works focus on rhythm, persistence, and the quiet continuity of ordinary movement.
As long as the train continues to run, a certain sense of structure and shared everyday life remains possible.
